Virginia Military Institute's Keith Gabriel has been selected as the StatSheet Big South Player of the Week for the week ending January 16th. Radford's Javonte Green has won StatSheet Big South Freshman of the Week. And last but certainly not least, Michael Sparks from Virginia Military Institute has won StatSheet's Big South 6th Man of the Week. Gabriel registered huge numbers in shooting (50%), rebounding (6 per game), and scoring (18.5 pts per game). The Virginia Military Institute senior led his team to victories against Liberty and Radford.

Gabriel added 9 points and 4 steals in 32 minutes in a 71-57 win against Liberty. That was followed by a team-leading 28 point and 8 rebound performance in a narrow 80-76 win over Radford.

This is the first time that Keith Gabriel has been named the StatSheet Big South Player of the Week. However, he has received an honorable mention. The runner-up this week is junior Jeremy Atkinson from North Carolina-Asheville. Honorable mention goes to Stan Okoye, a junior from Virginia Military Institute. Kierre Greenwood was the highest ranking player from Coastal Carolina, finishing fourth.

StatSheet Big South Freshman of the Week: Radford's Javonte Green

Javonte Green was on the floor an average of 24 minutes starting both games for Radford. His average in rebounding (9.5 per game) led all Big South freshmen. In a 69-64 loss to Liberty, Green contributed 11 points and 7 rebounds. In an 80-76 loss to Virginia Military Institute, he totaled 15 points and 12 rebounds.

This is the first StatSheet Big South Freshman of the Week honor for Javonte Green. The runner-up is Eric Washington from Presbyterian. Honorable mention goes to Trey Freeman from Campbell. Warren Gillis, who finished 5th, was the highest ranking freshman for Coastal Carolina.

StatSheet Big South 6th Man of the Week: Virginia Military Institute's Michael Sparks

Senior Michael Sparks, a 6-4 guard, played an average of 22 minutes over the two games for the Keydets. In the win over Liberty, Sparks put up 11 points on 44% shooting. During the win against Radford, he racked up 12 points and 3 rebounds.

This is the second StatSheet Big South 6th Man of the Week honor for Michael Sparks. Joab Jerome, a sophomore forward from Winthrop, is runner up. Blake Smith, a junior guard from Radford, receives honorable mention. Coastal Carolina has yet to win StatSheet Big South Player of the Week.
